Die Affäre Rue de Lourcine

Die Affäre Rue de Lourcine is a dark comedy by Eugène Labiche, directed by András Dömötör. Premiered at Munich’s Residenztheater in 2022, it follows Lenglumé, who wakes after a drunken night with no memory of what happened and evidence suggesting he may have committed a murder.

Sigi Colpe’s set places the action inside a bright, abstract bourgeois interior, while a darker world gradually emerges beneath it. We designed a video system using robotic cameras, live feeds, distorted real-time footage, and prerecorded manipulated images, deliberately blurring what was real, hallucinated, or imagined by the characters.

As the production descends from farce into something darker, the cameras reveal hidden parts of the theatre. A horror-film-like sequence unfolds in the basement beneath the stage, visible only through projection, while the audience hears the events physically happening below them. The split between image, sound, and reality turns the theatre itself into part of the illusion.
