Trippin'

Trippin’ is a contemporary dance production by choreographer Réka Oberfrank, premiered in 2022 at the National Dance Theatre in Budapest and produced by SÍN Arts Centre. Developed as part of a longer artistic research process, the piece explores the human body, the relationship between part and whole, and the tension between freedom and structured systems. Following Zoom and Miracle, Trippin’ became the third permutation and culmination of Oberfrank’s experimental series, bringing its choreographic and visual research into its most developed form.

Six dancers share the stage with a seventh element: projection. Rather than functioning as a background, the visual layer becomes an active presence within the choreography, expanding across the space, disappearing, engulfing bodies and creating shifting illusions. Together with Balázs Fügedi, we created the visual material as a constantly changing counterpart to the performers, using a two-projector setup, real-time movement tracking, reactive animations, and haze-based spatial illusions to blur the boundaries between body, light and the technological environment.
