Comic Potential

Igazából komédia (Comic Potential) is a futuristic comedy by Alan Ayckbourn, directed by Máté Szabó at Pesti Színház. Set in a near future where television is written by artificial intelligence and performed by humanoid actors, the play explores what happens when one of these machines begins to show something unexpectedly human.

The production builds this artificial world through a stylised visual language combining scenography, animation, and digital imagery. Pater Sparrow’s physical set creates a clean, controlled framework for this synthetic future, balancing the familiarity of a television studio with a distinctly artificial theatrical space. We designed the animation and digital imagery to extend the physical stage into a shifting media environment, moving between fictional television worlds, technological interfaces, and the reality of the characters.
